Do the ambulance handover times include patients who are returned to the ambulance after initial assessment and have to wait there? The ambulances at Royal Cornwall hospital are being used instead of trolleys in corridors.

Sue -- Whilst it's difficult to be certain, I suspect that the time ambulances spend being used as 'trolleys' are included in the excess wait times. I had a look at the Royal Cornwall Hospital (formerly Treliske Hospital) performance and in November they had an an average of 2.5 hours lost time per handover! Much higher than the South West average of 57 minutes and the 23 minute average for England.

Royal Cornwall Hospital has consistently very high excess wait times. The trend data can be found on page 4 of the following link to the AACE interactive dashboard but you need to select for Treliske Hospital.
